We are Doug and Emily!
After much getting married in August 2016, we made the leap of quitting our jobs and renting out our house in order to travel around the world with as few deadlines as possible. The budget to accomplish this will be a combined $100 per day. We hope to use this website as a way to share our experiences with our family, friends, and anyone else who is interested in reading.
We can’t wait to share what we find with everyone!
The hope is to be able to find and take advantage of opportunities as we find them, but we do have a route in mind, that starts specific and grows hazy:
January 3-leave Toronto for Bangkok, Thailand (via Cairo & Dubai-will be a very fun 30 hours!)
January 9-train to the south of Thailand, to reflect on whether we have lost or minds in the beauty of some stunning beaches.
February 1-flight to Yangon, Burma, where we will see as much as possible in our allotted 28 day visa. The plan from here is to take a train or bus from Burma back into Northern Thailand, and explore the north from there.
-this overland route will also hopefully end our need for proof of onward travel, hopefully what we have read is true from other traveler’s tales on the internet say we shouldn’t…we will hopefully make that a post in itself!
April/May/June-ish-Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam…this is where timelines start to get hazy. We also hope to visit Indonesia if possible in our budget, and Taiwan, where Emily lived for a year.
Summer ’17-China, planning to take the Trans-Siberian Express while it is hopefully still warm in Russia and Mongolia.
Even more hazy in timing but definitive in wanting to go to are India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South and Central America…and any opportunities to fit in amazing once-in-a-lifetime experiences we will jump on!!
